In a shocking display of remorse, Obiozor Sunday Nwaka, the Anambra State man who burnt his wife to death over suspicion of infidelity, has begged his children for forgiveness.
The incident, which occurred on Thursday sent shockwaves throughout the community and sparked widespread condemnation.
Nwaka's wife, Chinyere, was burnt beyond recognition, and her body was discovered in their home.
Nwaka's plea for forgiveness comes as the Anambra State government insists that justice must take its full course.
The state's Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Uche Nwogu, has vowed to ensure that Nwaka faces the full weight of the law.
"We will not tolerate such barbaric and inhumane acts in our state," Nwogu said in a statement. "The perpetrator will be brought to justice, and we will ensure that he faces the maximum penalty for his crime."
According to reports, Nwaka had been suspecting his wife of infidelity for some time.
On the day of the incident, he allegedly poured petrol on her and set her ablaze.
The police were quickly alerted, and Nwaka was arrested and taken into custody.
He has since been charged with murder and is currently being held at the Anambra State Police Command.
In a recent interview with a local newspaper, Nwaka begged his children to forgive him for his actions.
"I know what I did was wrong, and I am deeply sorry for my actions," he said. "I was consumed by jealousy and anger, and I let my emotions get the better of me."
Nwaka's children, who are currently living with relatives, have reportedly refused to forgive their father. They have vowed to ensure that he faces justice for his crime.
Even the wife of the Anambra State Governor, Nonye Soludo, has vowed to follow up closely on the case of a man who allegedly set his wife on fire in Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area, until full justice is served.
The community has been outraged by Nwaka's actions, and many have called for him to face the maximum penalty.
"This is a heinous crime, and the perpetrator must be brought to justice," said a community leader. "We will not tolerate such acts in our community."
The incident has also sparked a wider conversation about domestic violence and the need for greater support for victims.
"We need to do more to support victims of domestic violence," said a local activist. "We need to create a safe and supportive environment for them to seek help."
The case of Obiozor Sunday Nwaka is a tragic reminder of the devastating consequences of domestic violence.
As the Anambra State government continues to pursue justice, it is essential that we also address the
underlying issues that contribute to such acts.
