Businesswoman, Mizwanneka debunks allegations of being romantically involved with Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Businesswoman Mizwanneka has denied allegations of romantic involvement with Senate President Godswill Akpabio. In a statement, Mizwanneka described the rumors as "false" and "defamatory." The businesswoman also expressed her disappointment at the spread of unverified information, stating that she has never met Akpabio in person.

Mizwanneka's denial comes after online rumors emerged claiming that Akpabio had created an office for his wife at the national assembly. The rumors were later debunked by fact-checkers, who found no evidence to support the claims.

Akpabio has also been involved in other controversies, including allegations of corruption and sexual harassment. He was investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged theft and misappropriation of funds during his tenure as governor of Akwa Ibom State.

In addition, a former acting managing director of the NDDC, Joy Nunieh, accused Akpabio of sexual harassment and attempting to fraudulently award emergency contracts for flood victims in the Niger Delta. Akpabio denied the allegations and sued Nunieh for defamation.

Akpabio's candidacy for the Office of the Senate President was also opposed by some interest groups and members of the opposition due to his corruption allegations and alleged mismanagement of NDDC funds.

In another incident, Senator Akpabio told Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan that the Senate chamber was not a nightclub and she must be recognized before speaking during plenary. The remark was described as condescending, disrespectful, and perpetuating harmful gender stereotypes. The female leadership project, FLEADERS Nigeria, demanded an unreserved apology from Akpabio for his remark.

Despite the controversies, Akpabio was elected as the new Senate President in a keenly contested election. The former Governor of Akwa Ibom State and Minister of Niger Delta Affairs beat his only challenger, a former Governor of Zamfara State, Abdul'aziz Yari.
