The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has made a shocking allegation against politicians and high-ranking government officials, accusing them of stealing and diverting palliatives intended to alleviate the suffering of millions of Nigerians. The group claims that these officials have been diverting essential items meant to alleviate poverty and hunger, leaving many citizens without access to basic necessities.
HURIWA's accusation comes at a time when Nigeria is facing severe economic hardship, with many citizens struggling to survive. The group is urging President Bola Tinubu to take immediate action to address the country's economic woes and prevent the deaths of Nigerians due to starvation.
According to HURIWA, the diverted palliatives include food items, financial support, and other essential resources meant to cushion the effects of poverty and hunger. The group alleges that these items have been diverted by politicians and government officials for personal gain, leaving millions of Nigerians without access to the support they need.
HURIWA's National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, stated that the group has evidence of the diversion of palliatives and is calling on President Tinubu to order an investigation into the matter. Onwubiko also accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of plotting to downplay the allegations against the suspended minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
The group is demanding that President Tinubu takes the following actions:
- Order the Department of State Services (DSS), EFCC, and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to monitor the distribution of palliatives to prevent further theft.
- Set up a presidential panel to investigate the diversion of palliatives and bring those responsible to justice.
- Take immediate action to address the economic hardship facing Nigerians, including providing support for vulnerable citizens.
HURIWA's allegations have sparked outrage among Nigerians, with many calling for those responsible to be held accountable. The group's claims have also raised questions about the government's commitment to addressing poverty and hunger in the country.
HURIWA's accusation against politicians and government officials of diverting palliatives intended for starving Nigerians is a serious one that requires immediate attention. President Tinubu must take action to address the country's economic hardship and ensure that those responsible for the diversion of palliatives are held accountable. The future of millions of Nigerians depends on it.
