The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Monday Okpebholo, has emerged victorious in the highly contested Edo State governorship election held on September 21, 2024.

Okpebholo polled a total of 291,667 votes, defeating his closest rival, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 247,274 votes. The Labour Party's Olumide Akpata secured 22,763 votes to finish third.

Here is a breakdown of the results from the 18 local government areas in Edo State:

- APC (Monday Okpebholo): 291,667 votes

- Labour Party (Olumide Akpata): 22,763 votes

Okpebholo won 11 out of the 18 local government areas, while Ighodalo secured the highest votes in 7 local governments.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Okpebholo the winner after he satisfied all the requirements of the law and scored the majority of lawful votes.

In his victory speech, Okpebholo thanked the people of Edo State for their support and promised to deliver on his campaign promises.

"I am humbled by the trust you have placed in me, and I pledge to work tirelessly for the development of our great state," he said.

The PDP has congratulated Okpebholo on his victory but expressed concerns over alleged electoral irregularities.

"We will review the election results and explore legal options," said the PDP chairman.

The APC has hailed Okpebholo's victory as a testament to the party's popularity in Edo State.

"This victory is a confirmation of our party's commitment to good governance," said the APC chairman.

Okpebholo's victory has significant implications for Edo State's development and the APC's chances in future elections.

Analysts predict that Okpebholo's administration will focus on infrastructure development, economic growth, and improved healthcare services.

Monday Okpebholo's emergence as Edo State governor-elect marks a new chapter in the state's political history.

As he prepares to assume office, expectations are high that he will deliver on his campaign promises and take Edo State to greater heights.
